Is Christian Science Scientology?

Apart from the scientific aspect of their names, there is no relationship between the two. Christian Science founded by Mary Baker Eddy in 1866, is a science because it’s based on God as infinite principle and the unchanging love God gives while upholding health and well-being. Rooted in the practices of Jesus and his mission to provide healing to all so is the mission of Christian Science.

Mary Baker Eddy established this system of Christian healing after suffering from a life-threatening injury that compelled her to explore accounts in the Bible of Christ-healings performed by Jesus. The inspiration from the readings, her unwavering faith along with a deeper understanding of God’s divine laws provided instant relief from her suffering and she found herself healed. It was a result of this revelation that this Christian denomination truly was born. In 1879, Ms. Eddy was voted to organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of Jesus Christ and to reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.

As a result of Mary Baker Eddy’s lifelong spiritual search, it allowed her to develop her own practice of Christian healing. She would go on to heal and tend to many people throughout her years. Therefore, through her practices and meticulous treatment notes on these experiences, she was able to materialize her primary work titled, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures which explains the practice of spiritual regeneration and healing.

Considering all this, Christian Science is its own entity that offers direction to all that seek it out. The Bible together with Science and Health serves as the universal Pastor for the worldwide Church, providing always-available guidance and inspiration, as well as the sermons and readings for worship services.
